My Philosophy of Education
Children need someone they can turn to when they need support and encouragement, someone that can guide them in the right direction day after day. We as teachers are the ones that they can turn to and depend on.
By having a well designed curriculum, it will reinforce what to teach, how to teach it, and how to provide students with effective help so that they can become more successful learners. With every topic I present to my students, there will be various approaches in order to accommodate all of my student’s diverse learning abilities and backgrounds; no one method or approach is applicable for everyone. Each child has a wonderful gift to share with the classroom, and positive reinforcement is needed all the time during every subject presented.
Differentiating instruction is a way of creating multiple paths so that students of different abilities, interest or learning needs experience equally appropriate ways to absorb, use, develop and present concepts as a part of the daily learning process. It allows students to take greater responsibility and ownership for their own learning, and provides opportunities for peer teaching and cooperative learning.
Assessing students is the most complex part of the teaching cycle. Teachers must be fair and respectful when assessing students. As a teacher, I believe all students need to be assessed by the same standards and all students should be assessed by all methods, not different methods due to level or activity. This allows the teacher to provide a fair and unbiased view of how well the student has learned the material.
As an educator, I believe that all children should be taught with respect. To me, respect means holding children in high regard and valuing the learning process. It is appreciating the children’s diversity and the challenges they present and understanding the impact that my performance and my behavior have on each child’s self-esteem. As teachers, we should serve as a model for children by showing them connections between school and real life. This will enable children to have a high quality, lasting education.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to help children realize their full potential, discover their creativity and develop critical and flexible thinking skills. As a role model and mentor it is important that I model the educational approaches, teaching skills and professional behaviors that I want my children to develop. It is through the educator that the child discovers the purpose of learning.
